yes and gnome

They’ve become a feature of tourism, but the gnomes of Wroclaw have a foot in anarchist history. Now they are small sculptures scattered around the city, and folks have their pictures taken next to them… but: Early in the last century, there as a crackdown on dissent (public assembly, political graffiti). An artist got the idea to paint pictures of orange gnomes, and circulated the notion that this represented solidarity with the resistance. To the authorities, they were inscrutable, and (at least initially), one would not be prosecuted as a political figure for gnome representation…


Our project is looking for gnomic expression? New images, outside of trauma, from mouths not shaped by Force, language given its definitions by popular intuition?
