About the Play
A Noh version of King Lear, stripping the language of the play down to Cordelia and the fool – looking at notions of the warrior and revenge from the perspective of the disenfranchised.
Partners with Shape – the story of African American vaudevillian Cordelia McClain – hugely successful in her day, and influential in the medium of performance (rumored to be the inventor of the cakewalk with her husband Billy McClain), but then lost to history. The two plays play simultaneously – with sound bleed between them, repeating so audience may see one after the other.
